Albert L. McKee, 84, of Zionsville, passed away Tuesday evening, Jan. 20, 2015, surrounded by his family.. He was born in Mount Vernon, Illinois, the son of Glenard and Reva (Joy) McKee. He was a gifted basketball player and athlete, and attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. He was a Marine Corp veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1950 to 1953. He started his career in the property/casualty insurance business in 1960 and later established McKee Insurance Agency (now Mid States Insurance) in 1975, a business he owned until 1996.. An active member of his community, he was in the Lions Club, serving as president in 1979-80. He was also a member of the Charles F. Frank Masonic Lodge No. 760 in Zionsville. He was a Zionsville Volunteer Fireman for many years and served on the board of the Sullivan-Munce Museum. An avid golfer, Al was instrumental in starting the Zionsville Boys and Girls Club Annual Golf Outing, an event he was involved in for many years. He was a member of the Zionsville Christian Church since 1962 and served as an elder.. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carolyn (Jo); daughter, Julie; sons, Pat and Jim; and granddaughters, Hannah and Hayley; his brothers, Clyde McKee of Roswell, New Mexico, William McKee of Sedalia, Missouri, Mike McKee of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Jim McKee of Jeffersonville; his sister, Patty Latta, of Brownsburg; and many nieces and nephews.. A celebration of his life will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 24, at Zionsville Christian Church, 120 N. 9th St. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until service time at the church.
