Barbara E. Schlegel, 92, a resident of Zionsville and longtime former resident of Daleville, passed away Thursday morning, March 16, at the home of her son.
She was born in Marion on July 5, 1924, the daughter of Ernest and Nellie Taylor. Barbara was a 1942 graduate of Yorktown High School and attended Muncie Business College.
She was a member of the Circle "Y" Saddle Club, Daleville Women's Club, and was organist at Ballard and Shirey Funeral Home in Daleville and Richman Funeral Home in Yorktown for many years. She was a 50-years-plus member of the OES of Daleville.
Together, Barbara and her husband, Arthur "Jim" Schlegel Jr., owned and operated Schlegel Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning for 42 years.
She is survived by her sons, Stephen (Barbara) Schlegel and Rick (Mary Jean) Schlegel; grandchildren, Shelli Douglas, Brad Schlegel, Susan Johnson, Lorie Pietz, Nikki Pollert, Mitch Schlegel, Chelsea Williams, Randy Schlegel, Amy Hale, Holly Swoverland and Jerremy Monroe; 29 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a son, Randy; a great-grandson, Halex Hale; a daughter-in-law, Sherry Mae; and a special cousin, Marilyn Younce.
The Ballard family is honored to celebrate the life of Barbara with family and friends at 3 p.m. Sunday at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 8212 South Walnut St., Daleville, with Randy Schlegel and Becky Nunnally officiating. Burial will follow at Sunderland Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday.
