Doris's Story

Text size

Doris Jean (Stratton) Dwyer died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015, in Rochester, New York, with her daughter, Sharon Dwyer Buzard, at her side.. Doris was born into a large Southern Indiana family from Mt. Vernon on Nov. 17, 1923. In 1943 she married Arthur C. Dwyer from Evansville. They were a remarkably dashing, intelligent, and gifted pair. After many adventures, Doris and Art moved from Indianapolis and built their beloved house on Bloor Lane in Zionsville in 1975. Sadly, Arthur passed away in 1979, but Doris cherished their dream house and kept it as Arthur and she designed and decorated it until advancing age dictated that she leave Zionsville in 2011 so her daughter could watch over her.. Survivors, besides her daughter, include her beloved granddaughters, Laura Elizabeth Buzard, and her husband, Jeffrey W. Smith, of Seattle, Washington, and Susannah Helen Buzard, of Marlborough, Massachusetts. Although she is the last of her generation, many nieces, nephews, cousins and their off-spring survive her.. Besides her husband, Doris is predeceased by her parents, Henry A. Stratton and Ida Wolfinger Stratton, and her siblings, Lloyd Stratton, Vera Stern, Marjorie London, and Vernon Stratton.. A memorial service will be planned for this spring at Zionsville United Methodist Church, and a timely announcement will convey the details..
