Florian Richard Wolter, 96, of Zionsville, passed away Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, in Wichita, Kansas.. He was the son of Dr. Alfred Bernhardt Wolter and Irene Loeding Wolter. He was born Jan. 7, 1919, in Chicago, where he graduated from Carl Schurz High School. Wolter also was a graduate of North Park College in Chicago and later attended Butler University.. He moved to Indianapolis, where he worked as sales manager for United States Steel Corporation and had a distinguished career of 33 years. Wolter chose Zionsville as home, saying that it was the perfect place because there was a dog sleeping in the middle of Main Street. He retired in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where he actively served St. Stephens Lutheran Church before joining his daughter and family in Carmel and becoming a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Zionsville.. Wolter was a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason, Valley of Marquette, and member of Ahmed Shriners in Marquette, Michigan. Wolter was a much loved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, and will be missed by all and remembered for his love of family and always doing the right thing. He made his last great road trip in his eighties to the Northwest Territories and Alaska, followed by a second trip at age 90 from Carmel to Whitefish, Montana, where he visited his sister and family.. Wolter is survived by his daughter, Diane Irene Wolter Spranger, and son-in-law, Paul L. Spranger, of Wichita, Kansas; his brother, Alfred E. Wolter (Joyce), of Arlington Heights, Illinois; and sister, Irene Wolter Stanley, of Great Falls, Montana; grandchildren, Blakely Irene Spranger Chidlow, of Overland Park, Kansas, and Paul L. Spranger II, of Carmel; great-grandchildren, Mason and Hudson Chidlow; nieces, Teryl Stanley Parker and Kristine Wolter Sublette (Jerry); and nephews, Dr. Kirk Wolter (Mary Jane), Oyvind Firman (Hanne), Halvor Firman (Aud) and Tom Hemstad.. Wolter was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife of 32 years, Greta Hemstad Wolter.. The funeral service in celebration of his life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at Christ Lutheran Church in Zionsville. Interment will follow in Zionsville Cemetery..
