Frank (Francis) Mand, 83, formerly of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away at home in Zionsville, Indiana, on Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016.
A son of Peter and Ella Sabel Mand, Francis was born in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin, on Oct. 17, 1932. In May 1952, Frank married Iris Heathcote in Manchester, England. His wife of 48 years, she preceded him in death in August 2000. Frank married Susan Klatte Duhn in 2003 and relocated to Zionsville in 2005.
Frank was particularly proud of his 20-year career in the United States Air Force. He served from September 1950 to October 1970, and was stationed abroad in England, Holland, and Thailand. Frank loved his four sons: Tony, Andy, Craig and Mike. He got his sons into Scouting and helped with camping trips. Frank supported his sons and always led by example. Scouting helped immensely with their future accomplishments. Frank fostered their leadership skills and strong work ethics through his involvement with Boy Scouts and the family's 14-year history of delivering the Colorado Gazette. For over 20 years, Frank devoted himself to the support of Tony's endeavors with a Domino's Pizza franchise. He helped fix or build things and for over 20 years helped deliver pizzas in Chicago and Colorado. Frank was a partner in three Domino's stores and a team player in everything he did.
He enjoyed music, was a member of the Barber Shop Quartet Ensemble in Colorado Springs and actively participated in church choirs. He also was an active participant in the Be-Friender Ministry, a strong supporter of the Republican party, and enjoyed political discussions and debates at the local McDonald's and Dunkin Donut facilities. In the last six months, Frank particularly enjoyed playing cards of Sheep Head and Euchre with family and friends.
Frank was a member of St. Alphonsus Liguori Catholic Church in Zionsville and previous member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Colorado Springs.
He is survived by his wife, Susan; four sons, Anthony Mand, Andrew Mand, Michael (Kerry) Mand, all of Colorado Springs, and Craig Mand, of Penrose, Colorado; sister-in-law, Germaine Mand, of Fond Du Lac; father-in-law, Dr. Eugene Klatte (Mary Lou), of Indianpolis; step-daughter Sarah Henkle (Jeff), of Zionsville; step-sons, Dr. Ryan Duhn (Valerie), of Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Jason Duhn (Emily), of Zionsville; and multiple nieces, nephews and grandchildren in Wisconsin, Colorado and Indiana.
Preceding him in death are his first wife, Iris; five brothers, Joseph, Clarence, Albert, Gilbert, and Walter Mand; three sisters, Agnes Mand, Lydia Mand, and Helen Wagner; infant siblings Lidia and Leander; and infant grandson Matthew (2004).
A funeral mass was held at Sacred Heart Church in Colorado Springs, followed by a graveside military honor ceremony and burial at the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Colorado Springs.
