Fred Mayor Blix
Fred was born January 8, 1918, a son of the late Fred Sr. and Sophie (Zieman) Blix. He married Marjorie Marie Durst on March 15, 1945. He graduated from Carl Schurz High School in Chicago, IL in 1935. He then attended the University of Illinois, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1940. After his Bachelor's, he pursued a degree in medicine, graduating from the University of Illinois Medical School in 1943.
He served his country as a member of the US Army Medical Corp. during World War II before coming home and beginning his professional career as a physician. He started out as a family doctor in Ladoga, IN, as well as doing anesthesiology at Culver Hospital in Crawfordsville, IN. He served as Montgomery County Coroner from 1950-1952. In 1975, he became the director of the Family Practice Residency Program for St. Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis. He also served as the Medical Director for the St. Vincent Stress Center, retiring in 1985. He served in several locum tenens positions around the country until the age of 80.
Fred was a member of the Ladoga Masonic Lodge #187 F & AM, Eastern Star, Indianapolis Valley of the Scottish Rite and was a 32nd Degree Freemason. He served as clerk of session of the Ladoga Presbyterian Church. He was a founding member of the Indiana Academy of Family Practice, and served as president in 1975. He was active in theater, studied Spanish and loved taking the family on trips with an Airstream trailer throughout the United States and Canada.
He is survived by his children: David Blix, Susanne (Bill McGraw) Blix, M.D., Marcia Hobbs and Paul (Susan Foreman) Blix; grandchildren: Annmarie (Jason Zieger) McGraw, Annalisa (David) Graham, J.C. Hobbs and Joseph (Kara) Hobbs; great-grandchildren: William Zieger, Samuel Zieger, Henry Zieger, Tyler Graham, Haley Graham, Lily Hobbs and Nina Hobbs. Fred was preceded in death by his loving wife Marjorie of 71 years, his parents, brother Joseph Blix and a sister Lillian McIntyre Powell.
Family and friends will gather Thursday, January 3, 2019 for visitation from 10am until time of services at 12pm at the Zionsville Christian Church, 120 N. 9th St., Zionsville, IN 46077 with Rev. Tyler Thompson officiating. Burial will immediately follow services at Zionsville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Ladoga Public Library, 128 E Main St., Ladoga, IN 47954 and Zionsville Christian Church.
