Fred "Fritz" Gierhart, 93, formerly of Zionsville, died peacefully at his home in Vero Beach, Florida, on Aug. 3, 2014.. He was born March 2, 1921, in Columbus, Ohio, to Fred and Carrie Gierhart, and made Zionsville his home from 1950 to 1973. He co-owned Commercial Motor Freight Trucking Company in Indianapolis. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and an avid sportsman.. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lyda and Steve Harmon, of Vero Beach; grandsons, Fritz Harmon, of Franklin, North Carolina, and Doug (Brandy) Harmon, of Coloma, Michigan; and three great-grandchildren.. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Mary Jane, in 2007.. A service will be held at 10 a.m., Aug. 29, at Christ by the Sea Methodist Church in Vero Beach.
