George David Konija

George David Konija, 72, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2019. He was born to the late John and Angela Elizabeth Konija in Hampton, Virginia.
David enjoyed playing Wednesday night Poker at the American Legion post #79. He was an avid fisherman. He was an excellent cook, making the best deep fried turkey and chicken and dumplings. Since 1984 David was a diehard Colts fan and an aspiring master gardener. David was veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1964-1968. He was a pipefitter for 51 years and a member of local #440. David retired in 2004 and the following year he began driving a school bus for the Zionsville School Corporation.
David is survived by his loving wife of over 53 years, Jill Konija. Four sons: Stuart (Angela) Konija, Bryan (Sara) Konija, Scott Konija, and Brad (Tammy) Konija. Seven grandchildren: Jacob (Ashley), Brooke, Brayton, Luke, Elizabeth, Stephen, and Dalton Konija. One great granddaughter Emma, and a great grandson, Tyler, who is due in November. David is also survived by one sister, Joy Gleason, and one brother, James Konija.
David is preceded in death by two brothers, Kerry Konija and John Crawley.
A funeral service will be held Monday, July 15th at 2 P.M. at Zionsville Christian Church, 120 N. 9th Street, Zionsville. A visitation will be held from 10 A.M. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Salem Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Simplicity Funeral & Cremation Care, Zionsville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
