Gerald (Jerry)'s Story
Gerald (Jerry) Dayne Ellis, 91, long-time resident of Zionsville, died peacefully at his home on Dec. 4, 2017. Jerry was born Dec. 5, 1925 and grew up in Tipton, Indiana. He was the son of Everett and Dora Graham Ellis.
Jerry married Marjorie Black, who preceded him in death in September 2006, in 1953. They lived in Indianapolis before moving to Valparaiso, where they spent several years.
After returning to the Indianapolis area, they settled in Zionsville in 1966. Jerry was also preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
Jerry served in the military during WWII and was on board a military ship off the coast of Japan when the U.S. dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. He had a long career in the insurance business.
Following Jerry's retirement, he and his wife enjoyed traveling with their many friends, and spent several winters in northern Florida. Survivors include one niece, Barbara Black, one nephew, John Black (and wife Joyce), two great nieces and numerous friends.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 15, 2017 at Zionsville United Methodist Church in Zionsville. Calling will be from noon to 1:30 pm, and the service will begin at 1:30 pm.
Burial services will immediately follow at the Zionsville cemetery. Services are entrusted to Flanner Buchanan-Zionsville.
