James Watson Smylie Jr., a retired accountant with the Mississippi Department of Audit, passed away on March 3, 2016. He was born in 1923 in Greenwood, MS. He graduated from Greenwood High School and attended Mississippi State University and Southwestern Louisiana College. He was a combat veteran having served as a Radio Operator on a B-29, flying missions over Japan during WW11 and as an Artillery Air Observer during the Korean War. Among his military awards are the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with ten oaks clusters. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Greenville, MS. His wife Katherine preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughter, Kathy (Mike) Barton of Zionsville, IN and his son, Jim (Tanya) Smylie of Heath, TX and four grandchildren, Kate, Courtney, and Tyler Barton and Tucker Smylie. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Greenville, MS.
