Jerry Joe Hardin

Jerry Joe Hardin, 80, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 26, 2014, in Zionsville.. He was born on April 14, 1934, to Joe and Ivalou Hardin. Jerry grew up in Zionsville and graduated from Zionsville High School in 1952. In 1953 he married the love of his life, Sarah Ellen (Staser) Hardin, in Zionsville. They were happily married for more than 60 years.. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1953 to 1957, during the Korean War, as a communications technician. A bus driver in the Zionsville Community School System, Jerry retired after 31 years of service. He farmed for many years and also worked for many years at Taylor Oil Company. Later, he and his father formed Hardin & Son, a business that is known today as Hardin and Son. The company is now run by his own two sons and one of his grandsons.. Practically nothing gave him more pride than to admire a freshly mown lawn, and a lot of Zionsville homes, parks and businesses were on the receiving end of his expertise. Jerry was a Mason, member of the Zionsville Christian Church, a member of the Zionsville Cemetery Association Board, and a member of the American Legion Post No. 79.. He fiercely loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s accomplishments and their latest antics.. Jerry is survived by his four children: Terrie Keen (Rusty), of Zionsville, Steve (Traci), of Zionsville, Tracey McDonnell (Steve), of Arlington, Virginia, and Doug, of Lebanon; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as his brother Bill (Pat), of Zionsville; and his sister, Lila Hostetler, of Oviedo, Florida.. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his younger brother, Jeff Hardin.. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 1, at Flanner and Buchanan-Zionsville, 105 E. Pine St. Burial will be in Zionsville Cemetery.. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at Flanner and Buchanan-Zionsville..
