Judith "Judy" Lee Schoen Veatch, 75, a lifelong resident of Zionsville, died Wednesday, June 1, 2016.
Born Feb. 17, 1941, in Indianapolis, Judy was the daughter of Thad and Hazel Risinger Schoen. Raised in Zionsville, she was a 1959 graduate of Zionsville High School. After graduation, she enrolled in the Methodist Hospital Nursing School, graduating in 1962. Judy enjoyed a long and rewarding career as a registered nurse with Eli Lilly & Co., retiring in 1997.
Away from her career, Judy loved time with her family. Along with her husband, Don, she built a life centered on family, taking an active role supporting and encouraging their children, and eventually grandchildren, supporting each of them as they chased their dreams and built their lives.
Judy was an exceptional athlete in her youth and adult life, active in softball and coaching. She was a fixture at Zionsville's Lions Park, supporting her children and grandchildren in Little League and in countless gymnasiums across the country, watching volleyball and basketball games. A lover of nature and wildlife, her travels were often centered on these.
She also was an accomplished clarinetist with scholarships to Butler University, her father's alma mater, and Julliard. She elected to enter Methodist Hospital School of Nursing.
Judy is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, Don Veatch, whom she wed Sept. 1, 1962. Also surviving are her children, Kris (Henry) Nolan, Craig (Karin) Veatch, and Angie Veatch; her brothers, Thad and Terry Schoen; and her grandchildren, Ben and Evan Veatch, Maddie and Luke Nolan.
Visitation was from 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday, June 5, at the Zionsville Christian Church, 120 N. Ninth St., Zionsville. A funeral service was be at 11 a.m., Monday, June 6, also at the church, with visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Entombment followed at Lincoln Memory Gardens, Zionsville.
