Karlyn's Story

Karlyn Demaree Cowan, 79, of Lebanon, died Dec. 10, 2014, at her residence.. She was born Sept., 18, 1935, the daughter of George E. and Gladys (Gillan) Thrasher. She attended Dover High School and worked for Stewart Warner after graduation. She married John Kimmel Demaree in December 1956. Cowan dedicated her life to farming alongside her husband. He preceded her in death in July 1997. She married Max Andrew Cowan in June 2002; he preceded her in death in October 2014.. She was a member of Jamestown United Methodist Church and Centenary United Methodist Church in Lebanon. She enjoyed several organizations, including Home Ec Club, Tri Kappa Sorority, Cooking Club, bridge clubs, Red Hats, and Boone County Senior Services.. Cowan was completely involved in the family farming operation from driving large equipment to managing the business. Besides her love of the land, she adored her family and grandchildren more than anything.. Survivors include her children, John Kimmel (Beth) Demaree II, of Jamestown; Lisa (Jack) Rozwat, of Winfield, Illinois; Roxanne (Andrew) Mitchell, of Zionsville; stepchildren, LuAnn Cowan Robertson, John Cowan and Brian Ojala, all of Lebanon; sisters, Alyce (Karl) Miller, of Thorntown, Nancy (John) Lewis, of N. Ft. Myers Beach, Florida, and Joyce (Bob) Coomes, of Owensboro, Kentucky; grandchildren, Lindsay (John) Harrison, John Kimmel Demaree III, Daniel (Tayler) Demaree, and Andrew Demaree, all of Jamestown, John (Laura) Rozwat, of LaGrange Park, Illinois, Ryan Rozwat, Mitchell Rozwat, Anne Rozwat, Harrison Rozwat, Zoe Rozwat, Mitchell Rozwat, all of Winfield, Illinois, Laura (Stephen) Schott, Sarah (Chris) Moore, Jenna Mitchell, Maddox Mitchell, Maguire Mitchell, and Marik Mitchell, all of Zionsville; stepgrandchildren, Emily (Leroy) Goewey, Chedae Gillam, Chase Robertson, and Dane Robertson; 10 great-grandchildren; and foreign exchange son, Christian Schubert.. A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, at the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary in Lebanon. Karlyn was laid to rest in the Oak Hill Cemetery..
