Lela May (White)'s Story
Lela May (White) McKamey, 92, of Lebanon, passed away March 14, 2017, at Crown Pointe of Lebanon.
She was born in Indianapolis to the now late George Franklin and Anna Anita (Mills) White. She graduated from Shortridge High School in 1942. Lela married Joseph "Chet" McKamey in Indianapolis on April 26, 1942; Chet passed away on July 1, 2001.
Lela was a devoted mother and grandmother and was the sweetest person who always had a smile for everyone she met. She worked several years at Hine Pharmacy in Zionsville and later owned and operated the Tree House in Zionsville. She was a member of the Zionsville United Methodist Church and Whitestown United Methodist Church.
Survivors include sons, Joe (Cheri) McKamey of Zionsville, Tom (Barb) McKamey of Lebanon, Dennis (Teresa) McKamey of Thorntown; a daughter, Lucinda (Gary) Horn of Lebanon; grandchildren, Brett (Judi) McKamey of Westfield, Chris (Rhonda) Skomp of Noblesville, Curtis (Mariana) Skomp of Key West, Florida, Sara (Lance) Norman of McKinney, Texas, Stephanie (Chris) Curts of Indianapolis, Travis (Nadine Crawford) Horn of Westfield, Marc McKamey and Doug McKamey, both of Indianapolis; 10 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren. In addition, Lela was loved by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Lela was preceded in death by her son, Stephen Douglas McKamey; grandson, Wylie Scotten; a brother, Raymond White; and three sisters, Bethel Boyle, Mary Carr, and Patricia Schrock.
Family and friends will gather Thursday, March 16, for visitation from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., and funeral services will be held Friday, March 17, at 11 a.m. in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon Street, Lebanon. Lela will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
