Olive Prado Bistransky, 91, died May 22, 2016, in Carmel, after a short illness.
She was born Sept. 15, 1924, in Gary. A graduate of Froebel High School in Gary, Olive obtained a B.A. and an M.S. from Indiana University. She began her professional career in 1949 at Calumet High School, where she held a number of positions, first as a teacher of English and Spanish; later becoming a librarian, and the library coordinator for the Lake Ridge School District. From 1974 until her retirement in 1992, she served as administrative assistant to the superintendent of Lake Ridge Schools, a position in which she coordinated multiple areas: library, audio visual, and media. She implemented the computer program at Lake Ridge Schools.
Following her retirement, Olive especially enjoyed her years of residence in Zionsville, where she was able play an important role as an affectionate grandmother to Kendall and Alexis. A longtime resident of Gary, she moved to Zionsville in 1993 to be close to her daughter Lisa, son-in-law Mike, and her granddaughters. She loved gardening, reading and spending time with her many friends and neighbors. Among her special longtime friends are Angela Perkins, Helen Latia, Helen Vahary, Mary Athens, Joanne Ralph, and in recent years, Joyce Levy, a devoted friend and companion.
Olive is survived by her daughter, Lisa Prado Querry (Mike); her granddaughters, Kendall and Lexi Querry; sister, Angeline Prado Komenich; sister-in-law, Mary Prado; nieces and nephews, Robert Prado (Judy), Robert Scales (Mary Keefe), David Prado (Dirk Casto), Laura Prado, Kenneth Mihalik, Jean Foster (Robert), and Scott Bistransky (Mary).
She was preceded in death in 2007 by her husband of 57 years, John Bistransky; her mother and father, Lorenzo and Gimena Prado; her brothers, Joe Prado and Julius Prado; and her sister, Sulima Scales.
A private, family service is being planned.
