Roy's Story

Roy Lee LaFollette, 81, of Zionsville, died on June 14 at Robin Run Health Center with his wife, family members and friends at his bedside.. He was born in Jay County on April 15, 1932, to Thurman H. and Lucile (Shauver) LaFollette. He married Harriette (Baumer) on Sept. 6, 1953. Roy graduated from Freetown High School and attended Purdue University, graduating in 1954 as a registered pharmacist. He served in the U.S. Army as a first lieutenant from 1955 to 1957 during the Korean War. After the service, he worked as a pharmacist from 1957 until his retirement in 2003.. Roy was a member of New Hope Christian Church in Whitestown. He and Harriette enjoyed camping trips, travel and many varied hobby interests. He was also involved in community service in the Zionsville Lions Club.. Survivors include his wife, Harriette R. LaFollette; daughter, Sharon L. (Timothy) Baughman of Madisonville, Ky.; son, Charles A. “Chuck” (Janet) LaFollette of Lincoln, Neb.; son, Daniel “Dan” LaFollette of Zionsville; daughter, Karen LaFollette of Fort Myers, Fla.; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters who died as infants; and his sister, Betty (LaFollette) McClure.. Contributions may be made to New Hope Christian Church at Whitestown or The Gideons International.. Visitation was from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, June 17, at Flanner and Buchanan-Zionsville. The funeral service was at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, at New Hope Christian Church in Whitestown, with visitation from 10 a.m. until service time. Interment followed at Zionsville Cemetery.
