Paola, Kan.. Stephen Douglas Knapp, 58, of Paola, Kan., passed away on Friday, Jan. 10, 2014. Knapp was born on July 4, 1955, in Lebanon to Virgil and Rosalind (Whomes) Knapp.. For the first few years following graduation from Zionsville High School, he lived and worked in Indiana and Michigan. He spent the most recent 32 years of his life in Kansas where he had varied careers with K-Mart in Kansas City and Wal-Mart in Paola. Knapp had been pastor at Victory Road Baptist Church in Paola for 21 years. Prior to serving in that position he had filled the position of associate pastor of the same congregation.. Knapp was an Eagle Scout from Zionsville Troop No. 358, who enjoyed serving God, being outdoors, cooking, working at his computer, and watching mystery and old western movies. He met needs in the lives of many who crossed his path through the church-based school and the homeless shelter that he directed.. He is survived by two daughters, Sarah Knapp and Brooke Camehl; one brother, David (Susan) Knapp; two sisters, Amy (Alan) Nickerson and Anita (Frank) Sallee; Lynn and Mikel Myers and Desiree Hardee.. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home in Paola, and a memorial service was conducted on Jan. 17, at New Hope Christian Church, Whitestown. His burial is at Lincoln Memory Gardens.
