William C. Artman, 71, passed away July 1, 2015, at his residence in Whitestown.. William was born May 26, 1944, in Lebanon, a son of John and Alice (Deckard) Artman. He graduated from Sheridan High School in 1962 and then went on to get his associate degree in Heavy Equipment School that same year. He also graduated from the Allison Division of General Motors in 1969, where he specialized in tool and die making for 44 years. William spent his entire life farming until he retired from General Motors in 2006.. He was a member of the American Legion Sons, Post No. 410. William enjoyed farming, gathering with his family and friends, sitting on his front porch, watching movies, boating, fishing, traveling, and playing cards.. Survivors include his wife, Judith L. (Ruby) Rafter Artman, whom he married 32 years ago on Dec. 16, 1982; his father, John Artman; his children, Penny Cain, of Sheridan, Kelly (Gerry) Barnes, of Sheridan, Troy (Debby) Artman, of Stewart, Florida, and Jeremy (Beth) Rafter, of Lebanon; his grandchildren, Wade, Paul and Cody Cain, Faith (Tyler) Barnes Henning, Levi Barnes, Madison, Zoe and Jason Artman, and Kaylie, Savanna and Riley Rafter; his great-grandchild, Rhett Henning; his brothers, Gary (Peggy) Artman, of Lebanon, and Phillip (Deborah) Dean, of Gainesville, Florida; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.. William was preceded in death by his mother, Alice Artman; his brother, Dean; and his niece, Cheryl.. A family graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 18. Following the graveside service, friends are invited to join the family for a celebration of life lunch at the American Legion Post No. 79 in Zionsville.. Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N.
