Glenn van de Sandt, 89, Zionsville, passed away in his home on Friday, Nov. 29, 2013.. Glenn was born Jan. 5, 1924, in Los Angeles, Calif. During the Great Depression, his family moved to Mill Valley, Calif., where he graduated from high school and joined the military. He served as a photo reconnaissance pilot during WWII in the South Pacific. His assignments following the war included assignments in Japan, the Azores, Germany, Oklahoma, Texas and Ohio.. After retiring from active military duty in 1966, Glenn began his Civil Service career as a procurement agent at the "Defense Electronic Supply Center" in Dayton, Ohio. In 1981 he transferred to Ft. Huachuca, Ariz. Glenn fully retired in 1986 and moved back to Fairborn, Ohio, in 2000, and finally to Zionsville in 2012.. Glenn is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara; and seven children, Sherian Traywick (James) of Fortson, Ga., Ronald van de Sandt of Xenia, Ohio, Michael van de Sandt (Claudia) of Meade, Colo., Linda Cristman (David) of Placerville, Calif., William van de Sandt (Ann) of Zionsville, Karen Stacey (Richard) of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Robert van de Sandt (Yvette) of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; stepdaughter, Penny Johnson; and three nieces. Glenn was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and he will be missed by all who love him.. Friends may call 11 a.m. to noon on Friday, Dec. 6, at Burcham Jennings Funeral Home, 119 E.
