James Frederick “Fred” Heine, 72, of Lebanon, passed away Jan. 28, 2015, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.. Heine was born Feb. 1, 1942, in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, a son of Robert E. and Elizabeth J. (Hiner) Heine. He graduated from Broad Ripple High School and served in the U.S. Air Force at Grissom Air Force Base in Peru. He married Anita "Joan" Robbins July 31, 1966. Heine later worked for, and retired after 29 years from, the Shell Oil Company in Zionsville.. He was a past president of the Sheridan Jaycees, a lifetime member of the American Legion, a member and contributor to the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra Association, and an active supporter and promoter of the Lebanon Parks & Recreation Department. He collected antiques, old tractors and automobiles, and was a member of the Boone County Antique Tractor and Machinery Club.. An adventurer at heart, he loved to explore historic cities and places. He was creative, eclectic, and had a unique sense of humor. Throughout his life, he made home and family his top priorities.. Survivors include his wife, Anita Joan; children, Melissa Ann (Gregory) Witecha, Susan Elaine Medina, and James Patrick (Tracy) Heine, all of Lebanon; grandchildren, Annalise Kathryn Heine and Frederick James “Fritz” Heine; a sister, Barbara Jean Wert of Longmont, Colorado; and a brother, William Robert (Jane) Heine, of Whitestown.. Heine was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Polaco Medina; brother-in-law, Myron Robbins Jr.; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Helen and Gerald Sanders.. Family and friends will gather for a visitation from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, and services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7, with a half-hour visitation prior to the service at Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon.. Heine will be laid to rest at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis after an interment service in the Gothic Chapel at 1:30 p.m..
