Mary Bette Lewis died on Jan. 12, 2014.. Bette was born March 23, 1919, to Mae Hill Pitzer and Riley W. Pitzer in Texhoma,Texas. She was raised in Zionsville with her older brother, Harland, and sister, Martha. She attended school in Zionsville, where she met her husband George M. Lewis. They were married April 8, 1939.. After the birth of their first son, Christopher R. Lewis, they moved to Bluffton, where George was employed by Panhandle Eastern. Their second son, Stephen, was born in Bluffton. George was transferred again to Illinois and later to Kansas.. Bette's life revolved around her family. She enjoyed traveling with George, entertaining friends, gardening, sewing, reading a good mystery novel, and playing her pump organ. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bluffton.. After George's passing in 1980, she returned to Bluffton to be closer to her son, Christopher. She and Chris moved to Texas in 2002 to be closer to Stephen.. She leaves to cherish her memory: her son, Stephen and wife, Kay; two grandsons, Jason and Timothy Lewis; and nine great-grandchildren.. A funeral service and celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m, Sunday, Aug. 10, at First Presbyterian Church of Bluffton, with Rev. Laura Sherwood officiating. Inurnment will be Monday, Aug. 11, at Zionsville Cemetery.. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a charity of your choice..
