Quinton's Story

Quinton Roosevelt Elrod, 87, of Zionsville, died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011.. Elrod was born in Oakland, Ky., on Nov. 14, 1923. He was the son of the late Sir Frances Warner and Hattie (Gardener) Elrod.. He was married to Mary Lou (Shanklin) Elrod in Lebanon, on Feb. 21, 1950. She survives. The Elrod’s have celebrated 61 years of marriage.. Mr. Elrod is a graduate of Oakland High School in Oakland, Ky. After school, he enlisted in the Merchant Marines during World War II.. In the early 1950s, Quinton and Mary Lou purchased Bel – Mar Products Corp. from Quinton’s siblings. He had successfully guided Bel – Mar as its president until his health started to fail earlier this year.. In the 1960s, he built Elrod Lake north of Zionsville where he has resided since. He was a member of American Legion in Whitestown and the Masonic Lodge in Whitestown.. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Elrod of Zionsville; four children: Victoria Elrod Applegate of Las Vegas, Cheryl Ann Lee of Whitestown, Teresa Louise Beesley of Indianapolis, Steven Quinton (Susan Tahereh) Elrod of Zionsville; brother Howard E. Elrod of Georgia; sister Patsy (Kenneth) Paige; nine grandchildren: Clinton Scott McKinley, Brittany Rose Applegate-Hedrick, Heather Ann Lee-Swift, Melissa Kimberly Elrod, Brandon Day Applegate, Cassandra Louise Elrod, Robert Lester Beesley, Natalie Louise Beesley and Robert Dylan Lee; five great-grandchildren: Gavin, Ashton, Simone, Scarlett and Drew.. He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.. Memorial services were Saturday, Sept. 17, at Myers Chapel of Memories, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon.
