Robert L. (Bob) Veenstra, 72, of Zionsville, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Aug. 13, 2015.. Bob was born in Detroit, Michigan, on May 15, 1943, to Roy and Sue Veenstra. He received master’s degrees in math and electrical engineering from the University of Michigan and a law degree from the Detroit College of Law. Bob used his engineering and legal training and his superb analytical mind on behalf of a number of important companies, including Detroit Edison, Arch Mineral, and PSI Energy. He retired from PSI Energy in 1994 after helping the company prepare for the merger with Cincinnati Gas & Electric that created Cinergy.. Since his retirement, Bob volunteered his time and expertise in helping people of limited resources deal with the legal system and the problems of life, gaining the admiration of the many who he helped. Bob was known for his sense of humor, his generous giving spirit and his enormously faithful love of the Lord. Bob loved gardening, golf and traveling. He was a devoted member of Bible Study Fellowship and a longtime member of the Indiana Bar Association.. Bob is survived by Lainie, his loving wife of 32 years; sons Timothy (Tracee) of Dearborn, Michigan, Michael (Dawn) of Southgate, Michigan, and Joel (Ellen) of Irvine, California; sister Dolores Speulstra (John) of Silver Spring, Maryland; brother Gary Veenstra (Deborah) of Farmington Hills, Michigan; and grandchildren Brooklyn, Lauren, Avery and Benjamin Veenstra.. Calling will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 18, at College Park Church, 2606 W. 96th Street, Indianapolis, with a celebration of Bob's life to follow at noon.. Arrangements have been entrusted to Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center in Zionsville. Contributions in Bob's honor can be made to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, College Park Church, or the charity of your choice.
